Engagement Shoot

An Amazing Photoshoot Turns into a Shocking Proposal!

Rhiannon, that stunning model with the beautiful headpiece up there, kinda got punked. Seriously. What was meant to be a photoshoot, quickly turned into something much different then she expected. Rhiannon and her boyfriend, Michael, were just going to "model" for Jodi, the photographer. Rhiannon was happy to help because she was going to get some FAB pics of the two of them out of the deal. Little did she know that Michael and Jodi had been in cahoots (Yup! I totally just used that word!). Bridey, I don't want to ruin the big "reveal", so I'm going to shut up now. All you have to do is scroll down to see how it all played out. Enjoy!!

Rhiannon, I fucking love your wings!! My six-year-old daughter is aching for some herself... I mean, who isn't?!!

Seeing B+Gs (well, almost a B+G) laughing together makes me super happy. I have gotten through so much with my hus simply because we do a lot of laughing.

Here we go! Jodi put them back to back, and asked that they look in different directions so that Michael could get down on one knee with the engagement ring.

Like... How fucking cool is it that B+M will have their actual engagement captured on film?

I love how Rhiannon is looking at Jodi like, "OMG! You totally knew about this!"

Thank you Rhiannon, Michael and Jodi for sharing this fantastic shoot + engagement with Bitchless Bride! LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!

Fantasy Friday ~ A Saucy, Playful Downtown Engagement Shoot

I don't know if you've noticed, but I don't share a tremendous amount of engagement shoots on Bitchless Bride. It's not because I don't like them, I do, and I think they are fun and important, but frankly, they all seem to blend into one another. So, when I see a shoot that resonates with me like this one did, then I feel an overwhelming urge to share it it with you, bridey.

The best part of this shoot? Apparently, Joy and Max are fucking funny. Like, so funny that their photographer, Dana of EarthMark Photography, said that, "Seriously, work should not be allowed to be this fun." OMG... If ONLY all brides (and grooms) were this fun and easy to work with! And after the shoot, they dined at a delishious BBQ joint and spilt a pack of Strongbow Cider. I mean... Enjoy this FAB engagement shoot!

Joy! I'm dying over your FAB blue hair with the hot pink surprises!
I love how they are totally cracking up during the shoot!
Such a romantic shot!
Love the dress and the tats!
What are you whispering into her ear, Max? Joy's totally blushing!!!
Thank you for sharing your frolicsome and lovely engagement shoot with Bitchless Bride!

The Truth Hurts Tuesday ~ The BEST Advice from the BEST Wedding Vendors in Boston!

Bridey, today's post is like hitting the jackpot of wedding planning. SERIOUSLY. If you are recently engaged or are in the midst of planning your wedding, stop what you're doing, and focus because you are about to be educated by the BEST in the wedding biz! I asked some of my absolute FAVORITE vendors in the Boston area to share the best piece of advice about planning a wedding, and these peeps? Well, they completely spilled the beans. I mean... There is so much wedding planning goodness in this post, that I could fucking chew it!!!

I rarely say cheesy shit like this, but this is a must read!! So, are you ready to learn? Ready to say, "Thank you, Bitchless Bride!!" Good! You're welcome!

Wedding Planners:

When you are newly engaged, you tend to become inundated with information overload and it can be daunting to say the least.  My advice to newly-engaged couples is to forgo the route of hiring all of your vendors until you’ve secured the right, professional, experienced wedding planner. Some couples feel it’s best to hire a “day of” coordinator and do the rest themselves, only to learn how much money could have been easily saved by avoiding costly mistakes and uneducated decisions along the way. The right planner should be your guide, your educator, your confidant, your representative along the way and you need to put your trust into this person as they do this every day and truly look out for your best interests from the start.

Paula Marrero ~ Marrero Events

My advice to new brides: Don't panic, it's all overwhelming at first but it's important to book the top 3 first-top priorities (if you're not working with a planner) are to find your venue, photographer and band--then breathe!  I also advise brides to wait to design the space until about 6 months before the wedding... You'll be able to have a couple months thinking about ideas, pinning on Pinterest , etc... I find that so many of my clients go in with one idea and once they've relaxed and see what is out there or trending in their wedding year they change their idea of what their wedding looks like--so ultimately they get what they want instead of what they thought they wanted--big difference!

Invitations:

Invitations are the introduction of your wedding to your friends and family; they set the tone for the event. You can’t just get a quote as there are a lot of factors to consider such as quantity, quality, type of inserts, type of print, etc. There is a lot more involved then most people realize. So, plan accordingly.

Mara Weiner ~ Allure Invitations

Cake:

Be your own "bride" ...don't worry about what family, in-laws, friends & co-workers want for YOUR WEDDING. Follow what YOU have wanted & dreamed about.

Paula Kirrane ~ Icing on the Cake

Entertainment:

Once your venue is booked, the next step is to lock in your entertainment. In order to get the best DJ or band out there, you have to book well in advance. Remember, first and foremost? Your guests are going to remember if they had a good  time. That’s why good entertainment is vital.

Always ask your entertainment vendor about their other recommended services. This is how you get the best deals without making a laundry list of phone calls. They may already have what you need and could save you time and money without sacrificing quality.

Mike Amado ~ Entertainment Specialists

Photographers:

Lately couples are asking me if they should do the "first look". My answer is always YES! The first reveal is always so sweet. The moment is far more emotion and allows for a more intimate/private moment with just the couple.

Some brides envision this grand moment when they are walking down the aisle, and the groom is sobbing… However, in reality, in a traditional formal setting with 200 people looking at you… The groom often looks like a deer in head lights. Not at all the magical moment you think it will be! So yes, do a first look!

Lauren Killian ~ Person + Killian Photography

Don’t do a winter e-session! People look freezing, and are super uncomfortable. Nothing like having dirty snow and branches coming out of everyone's heads! Wait until the spring when the temperatures are higher, and the trees start to bloom. I highly suggest April-November.

Cinematography:

1. Make sure that your photographer and videographer work well as a team. Even better, choose a team where your photographer and videographer have worked together and enjoy the experience.

2. Ask your prospective wedding film maker how they operate during the wedding day. Will they have lights on their cameras? Will they be on the dance floor circling the couple during the first dance? Will they stand behind the officiant during the ceremony - Or will they stake out spots based on experience and fade into the decor?

3. Ask your toasters to limit toasts to under 5 minutes. 3 is even better. There’s not much they can say (that won’t be dumb or embarrassing) after a couple of minutes.

4. Invite your guests to leave their phones and cameras in their pockets or purses. You’re paying for pros to document your wedding - don’t let the amateurs get in the way!

5. When considering wedding cinematography, check out the sound  as well as the images of potential pros. Capturing pristine sound of your grandfather’s blessing and knowing how to integrate it with music and image, is a complex art form. Don’t settle for pretty pictures if you already have a photographer you love. When it comes to film making, sound is 60% or more.

6. If you desperately want a top notch film maker to capture your wedding, and have a limited budget, consider one of the following:

a. Grab pics from the HD / 24 Frames per second of the video capture and forego the photographer.

b. Hire the film maker you want and see if you can work out a payment plan that works for you.

c. Opt for the best film maker you can afford, ask them to produce a short highlights now, and wait until you’ve financially recovered to have them edit the feature film.

Naomi Raiselle ~ Generations Cinemastories

Florist:

The Best way to trim your budget is to trim you guest list (it literally makes every line item more affordable - period, the end)! (AMEN!!!!!!)

If you "absolutely love and have to have peonies" - know that you absolutely MUST select a wedding date in May or early-June!

Bring as few people to each and every appointment that you book ... the less opinions, the less stressed out you will be!

~ Anonymous Florist

And there you have it... You're welcome, bridey!!! Now, all you have to do is listen to the professionals trying to help you.

Fantasy Friday ~ A Sexy & Sentimental Engagement Shoot

Bridey. This engagement shoot is so lovely and loving that I have no words. In fact, I am going to let Amber, the bride, share with you a 'lil something she wrote to Daniel...

"Here I am, standing at the brink of our wedding day and I haven't felt a single fear. I've not worried once that I will ever miss a day of your love. I find comfort in your feet on mine at night, because we prefer to sleep back to back, and on opposite ends of our bed. There comes a time in your life after becoming a parent that sleep is important and our "I'll meet you again in the morning time" turns into an average thing. I know that just because we aren't always physically "open" for touch that we are lacking something. I find myself everytime I lay with you, I know that where I am today is not where I would be without you. You keep me level headed when I am beyond a breaking point and clouded behind stress. You are my hot shower in the evening when I wash away the last bit of my day. You are my comfort, and you are my roots that ground me. I love you, I need you, I appreciate you."

What a beautiful shot..."Meet you again in the morning"... with a smile on my face.OMG! What a GORGEOUS babe!!Um... Sniff sniff... This pic is simply moving...Such a beautiful (and cool) couple and little family!! Thank you for sharring with Bitchless Bride!

Fantasy Friday ~ An Extreme Engagement Shoot

Yup! They’re filthy. They’re covered in mud from head to toe, and you know what? I fucking love it! Meet Kemper and Ben. They are extreme enthusiasts, and made sure that their passion for all things awesome was captured during their engagement shoot. As you browse these jaw-dropping photographs, you’ll see Kemper and Ben in some seriously compromising “poses”. We have some midair ski shots, mid-ride motorcycle shots, the muddy shots on the ATV, and a few mushy shots of them kissing. Apparently, this engagement shoot was actually a series of three sessions to make sure the talented Brian Smyer of Smyer Image could acquire all of the adventure you are about to see.

Bridey, if you and your sig other are driven towards anything out of the ordinary, bring it to your engagement shoot! Not only will you have some FAB pics to hang around the house, but you could display them at your wedding reception like Kemper and Ben did! BTW… Kemper purchased two wedding dresses; one for the shoot and one for the wedding. Totally genius!

I mean... Holy shit!! That's amazing!OMG! Kemper! Are you freezing? So cute (when they're all cleaned up!)!Here they go!OMG!! You can't even see them!Easy now...Take it off, baby!Hose her down!So awesome!!! Gotta love the dirty hands and passionate hearts!!!

Fantasy Friday ~ A Flashy, Fun, Blue Shoe Wearing, Cherry Red Chevy Rockin' Engagement Shoot

Envy. That's all... I am completely and totally envious. Seriously, I just can't get enough of Leah's hair. Right?? It totally makes me want to go back to my teenage years and rebel (well, a little bit more). The only time I got my hair a teeny, tiny bit this fire engine red was when I dyed it with... KOOL-AID!! Yup. I dyed my hair with fucking Kool-Aid! And it worked! I don't know what's worse; that I dyed my hair with a popular (at the time) tasty bevy or that it fucking worked!! And, according to wikiHow, apparently, I was WAY ahead of my time! (Bridey, if you're interested in trying it, you must use the unsweetened packets vs. the sweetened.... TRUST ME!) Anyway, back to Leah and her fabulous hair and this cool ass shoot!

Between the red hair, the cherry red Chevy, the blue stilettos, the Golden Retriever and the heat between Leah and Matt, I just couldn't help myself. I HAD to share this engagement shoot with you, bridey. Because, if you're interested in having an engagement session, then take a few pointers from Leah and Matt. Shake it up! Change your clothes, bring props (the Chevy does count as a prop, right?) and get into it! Or else why do it? Right? So, doll, have fun scrolling!

I mean... FUCK YEAH!!! I need these shoes!Look at that hair!! OMG!!!Hot!Awwwwwww.... Doggie....

Fantasy Friday ~ A Downtown Denver, Save the Date Engagement Shoot

I am a sucker for these photographs. Seriously, look at the fabulous dip happening! Right?!! In the middle of the street... OMG! I love the element of danger (I mean, shit... there are cars coming!)... It's fun. It's sexy. And, perhaps it's because I have always wanted to be "dipped" or perhaps it's because Kiri and Michael are definitely the "cool couple", but either way, these engagement pics tell an awesome story and double as pretty kick ass save the dates too!

Bridey, if you are looking for a way to capture your engagement AND need some save the dates, then let Kiri and Michael lead the way. These pics are interesting and tell a story. I find that I am curious to see what happens next. The locations (and the "costume changes") will draw you into the web that is Kiri and Michael and entice you too!

Kiri, you are adorable! I love the look on your face! But, Michael... The way you're looking at Kiri... Hot damn.OMG. Here he goes again!Gotta love the smile kiss!HAHA! This one makes me laugh...So sexy. So cute.

Fantasy Friday ~ An Engagement Shoot that is Sexy, Fun and Fabulous

Bridey, don't you kind of feel like you are encroaching on Abbey and Dan's space somehow by staring at this picture? Good! That's exactly how I WANT you to feel. Actually, I'd be happy if you felt anything when you look at engagement photographs. Because oftentimes they can be a bit lackluster and ordinary. But, these? Well, they are anything but ordinary. They are extraordinary. They are fun. And you know what? Other people (as in anybody who is not the bride and groom) will actually want to look at them. I mean, there are costume changes and scenery changes and mood changes... Seriously, I could go on and on...

Brideys! If you are looking for inspiration for your engagement photographs, just look down. Abbey and  Dan nailed this shoot with the help of their talented photographer, Tyler Boye of Tyler Boye Photography! Whatever you do.... Be extraordinary not ordinary.

Like... The cutest pic! I love how Abbey is totally ticklish!Lovin' the how colorful this shoot is!!Wardrobe change in three... two... one...Hot damn.Get ready for some steam...H.O.T. H.O.T H.O.T.Compete with THAT, bridey!!!

Fantasy Friday ~ It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's a Superhero Engagement Shoot!

Don't be jealous of Diana and Kyle's shirts (I know, right? I totally am! I need to have that Wonder Woman tank!). Be jealous of this phenomenal engagement shoot! You know what, bridey, fuck that... Don't be jealous, be inspired! Be inspired to do something different. Be inspired to do something colorful and unique as opposed to simply smiling for the camera and planting a few kisses here and there. It doesn't have to be this, but why be boring when there are so many fun places to shoot your engagement photos?

These insanely awesome photographs were taken in front of Kyle Brooks street art in Atlanta. You know I'm a graffiti enthusiast, so when I saw this shoot, I just HAD to share it with you, bridey. Just wait, these two are getting married any day now, and I am hoping that Julie of Jules Photography will be kind enough to submit their COMIC BOOK WEDDING to BB so that I can share that with you too... WOW! You think that was a big enough hint? Anyway, enough outta me... Enjoy these fabulous and fun pics!!

Between the tat and the shoes... I am OBSESSED!KAPOW!!!! Obvi, I love her hair, but with the KAPOW? I can't... It's just too awesome!Time to kick these off! Um Kyle... What are you whispering into Diana's ear? That girl is blushing!!Diana, I love your dimples! So cute.Costume change.LOVE everything about this shoot!!

Fantasy Friday ~ Not Your Average Engagement Shoot

Every now and again, I receive an engagement shoot or a wedding submission that so perfectly fits my mood, that I truly do feel like it's fate that it ended up in my pretty little hands. Enter Kacie and Shaun. Their engagement shoot is super unique and edgy, clearly encapsulating who they are, and I gotta say, it is exactly how I am feeling as of late. Plus, I am heading to Vegas in a few days, and let's just say that when I'm in Vegas, my edgy side definitely shows her face! And, I wanted to leave you brideys with a post that will stay with you while I am dabbling in debauchery at the Bellagio, and I feel strongly that this post will do the trick!

Really look at the opening pic... Got me thinking, and I felt like I needed to know more about Kacie and Shaun, so I had Kacie answer a few Qs for me! Pretty fucking fab!

BB: How did you two meet? I was best friends with Shaun's cousin, Candace, growing up and we used to say that we were cousins; now we almost are. It wasn't until Shaun and I were older, 5 years ago maybe (not sure), that we got to know each other. I was working at a local bar that he frequented often, very often, like his name was everyday guy, and the rest is history. I was even almost fired for dating him in the beginning, but that's another story.

BB: Kacie, have you ever shaved Shaun's head before? No, he doesn't let me! I offer all the time, something about him wanting to live is usually the response I get... He was scared, and still sleeps a bit uneasy.

BB: When and where is your wedding? Our wedding is Halloween! The ceremony is being held at the Newburgh Brewery & reception at F.E.A.S.T. at Round Hill in Washingtonville, NY.

BB: Who proposed and how? This is a complicated story, I'm not even sure if most of our friends and family knows the truth... Long story short... Shaun had an 'experience' while quite intoxicated one night, and woke up the next day a new man. I was terrified and had no idea what this new Shaun did with old Shaun. I went to work at Gleason's, a restaurant in Peekskill NY, an he showed up 15 minutes later just to tell me he loved me. Now, I'm really freaking out, I thought he was going to kill himself or something, this behavior was very unlike him. Later that night he showed up at my job again, sitting at the bar, holding my hand, crying, I knew something was up... He said I want to spend the rest of my life with you, will you spend the rest of your life with me, I said I'm In! And that was that.

BB: How many tattoos do you have between you two? I have 3, but it's really over 30 hours. How many is a trick question. The Dragon piece on my back is now finished, what see you was just the start! Shaun has 8, but well over 60 hours!

BB: What's your favorite kind of beer?
Shaun's is Guinness. I can't pick just one! But if I had to, La Roja from Jolly Pumpkin brewery.

BB: Are you going to have a signature drink at your wedding? Since we are doing a 1920's Speakeasy theme we're going to stick to the classics, a Bee's Knee's or a variation on a Manhattan.

I really love this shoot! Thank you for sharing with BB!!!

Fantasy Friday ~ Dogs Are People, Too... A Hawaiian Engagement Session

Yeah... I can sometimes be a softie. Seriously, look up! There's a dog in that photo. See that adorable couple with their adorable golden retriever? I mean, how could I resist the cuteness? Not too mention that I am a huge fan of bringing what's important to you into your engagement shoots. For some of you, that means spicing it up with a paint fight or rolling around on an old truck or trashing an old motel room together, and that's fantastic, because it's personal... But, for Michelle and Seung, it's about their love for their dogs, Bailey and Sadie. Sadly, Sadie died about a week before this shoot, but if you scroll down, you'll see how Michelle and Seung paid tribute Sadie without turning a happy day into a sad one.

Bridey, remember that if you're going to take the time (and that of your photographer) to have an engagement or save the date shoot, then do it right! Make it personal, or don't do it at all. Seriously, look around at all of the photographs you have of each other. Are they the same? And, are they boring? Probably!! So, step out of the box, and make your engagement shoot personal or don't bother. Okay... off my gigantic soapbox. Go look at the FAB pics!
I love how they are looking at each other!!

I am SO going there... I feel like Seung is looking at Michelle, like "Hey girl... What do you say we take this to the grass?"Bailey is wearing a photograph of Sadie around her neck.
