    Quit Being an Inconsiderate Pinner

From the Desk Sara Burnett, www.burnettsboards.com:

Bitchless Bride is on a quest to toughen me up, and so I’m here to deliver a rant of my own about crappy Pinterest pinners.

So if you pin, listen up.

You like inspiration boards. I make inspiration boards. What that should mean is that I spend A LOT of time using Pinterest to put together beautiful wedding ideas, just for you. What that really means is that I spend a lot of time uploading to Google images and tracking down a beautiful shot because you pinned it incorrectly.

See… giving credit where credit is due is really important, in life, and in the blogosphere. So when I find a picture I love and click though and it goes to one of the following:

    1. the wrong blog because you are high jacking pins to get more traffic (by the way -  @herblog, I filed a complaint against you!)
    2. the blog’s homepage because you didn’t click on the post’s permanent url
    3. the image’s url instead of the post’s url

    It makes me crazy.

And I know I’m not the only one. You’re making Pinterest a less inspiration place for all of us.

It’s really not that difficult to pin something. Here’s how:

You’re on a beautiful bridal inspiration blog’s homepage, cruising around. You see something you like. You pin it.

    WRONG.

    Ok, let’s try again.

You’re on a beautiful bridal inspiration blog’s homepage, cruising around. You see something you like. You click on the post’s title which then takes you to its page. You go up into your toolbar and click ‘pin it’ and write a cute/funny label with lots of exclamation points.

    RIGHT!

Let’s all of us try a little harder to ‘pin properly.’ It’s not difficult, trust me, I do it all the time.

Yes to all of this!! It is so frustrating to not be able to find the real source... And not to mention, can people just quit pinning from Tumblr?? I think I need to go clean out my Pinterest and delete the repins that weren't sourced correctly. I don't want to be part of the problem!

    Hey Ashley,

You go with your bad self! Thanks for your comment! I am still educating myself on Pinterest, so all I can do is agree with proper etiquette!

I can not even come close to expressing how much this very thing drives me MAD. I hate hate hate pins being pinned from the wrong place and dont even get me started about pinning from Tumblr... Not even on a professional level, nothing frustrates me further then to find something I love, either want to know more about it, the steps to make it, or where to buy it, only to be lead down a dark alley and find myself all alone.

There is actually a pin of mine that has gone viral, and I found that someone actually did a blog post on it. In her post, she mentioned that she had to 'track me down' I found this quite curious because, were these folks not pinning from my page? According to my stats, it has been repinned atleast 53K times. I cant tell you how many Tumblrs I have tracked back to me, and thats only the ones that do it right.

What does this all mean, alot of frustration for serious users of Pinterest. I quite often use Pinterest to find things over Google, very serious about that. I will fully admit, when I started, I was a pin offender. I pinned from the wrong places. Please please please learn from us and Pin It Right!

    Xo
    Jess

    Hey Jessica,

I think I just fell in love with you all over again...

    Right on lady!!

Thanks so much for sharing this BB! I feel tougher already! And Jess- I had the SAME thing happen to one of my pins (except the whole viral bit, but it was hundred and hundreds), but then I saw someone (ahem....@herblog) jacking my pin and linking it to her blog! Pinterest SHOULD remove the part on the edit pin where you can change the url.

    Hey Sara,

Of course I am going to share it! You clearly bring up a valid point! I will tweet to Pinterest about removing the part on the edit where you can change the url. They will probably do nothing, but at least we can say we tried!

Thanks for the comment and thanks for writing this!

    XO,
    BB

YES! I can't tell you how many times I have come across a pin of mine (my logo even!!!) with a different URL! WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT. I don't know why people are allowed to alter the source URL. The only good thing about that feature is being able to fix what others have screwed up!

Oh, and also weird - adding your own URL into the comments of every pin you repin - not illegal but slightly creepytown bananapants.

    Great rant, Sara!

    Hey Mindy!

Thanks for your comment! Sara does write a great vent doesn't she? So proud of her for saying what's on her mind!

    Take THAT Pinterest!

I swear I never knew that. Thanks. I'm trying to figure this out. That's great info.

Whew! Glad we caught it Bettina! The worst though are those pin stealers.... a plague on their houses! ;-)

Your so right- I'm trying so hard to run a business and want to do it right- it sounded great to pin -and get your name out but it never made sense to me since the originator didn't get the credit - i didn't know you can click until you get to the original and pin there. If you have any twitter how to's please let me know.
    :)
