The Modern Day Romeo and Juliet
You would NEVER know it by looking at them. To me, they just looked like a handsome couple. She had long, gorgeous brown hair and big brown eyes, and he was tall and striking. They were truly an ascetically pleasing couple who seemed in to be in love. But... would they make it past the wedding weekend or even down the aisle? Because there was one little problem... Their parents. Yeah, they fucking hated each other.
Honestly, I don't even know where to begin with this one. I felt completely outside of myself during the entire planning process because this was the first time that I worked with a couple whose parents hated each other to the point of potentially allowing their differences to ruin a marriage before it even began. I mean, I have worked with all sorts of fucked up situations in my career, and even consider myself somewhat immune to a lot of the bullshit. I mean, seriously... I've seen everything from cheating significant others to even a case of the dude already being married, but was so deep into his lie that he didn't know how to get out of it! Obviously the wedding didn't happen because he was um... married (to somebody else), but only called it off two weeks before they were to say "I do"(yeah... for real).
Anyway, it all started with the engagement party... The bride's family threw backyard bash for the happy couple and sadly there was a comment overheard by a guest on the bride's side about the type of food provided, and how little of it there was (please note, I did not plan this party!), and that little teeny comment turned into the war between the Montague's and the Capulets'. After that party, the bloodshed began. About everything. Every decision, every dollar and every moment of the wedding weekend.
Ultimately, they did walk down the aisle, and everybody "got through it" (which is always how you want to reflect on a wedding weekend). And they might even make it because they don't live anywhere near either one of their parents, but I have to say... once a baby comes into the mix, my money is against them.
Have you ever attended a wedding where you could FEEL the tension between the families? Did it happen to you?
